Glenn Hess

GLENN M. “DOC” HESS, 82, of Milledgeville, IL, died Thursday, February 11, 2010, at his home.

Doc was born June 26, 1927, in Sterling, IL, to Milton and Katie (Nunemaker) Hess. He was educated in the rural Carroll County grade schools and graduated from Lanark High School in 1945. He married Maxine J. Wessels on April 16, 1949 in Nashua, IA. Doc served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He farmed his entire life in the Chadwick and Mt. Carroll areas, retiring in 2003. After retiring, he worked for the Milledgeville Park District for a few summers. He was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, IL and the Carroll County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed recycling and creating things that would make life and farming easier. He loved to play card games and games that required a lot of thought. Doc was a bicyclist, enjoying long country rides.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine; one daughter, Janet (Rick) Baumgardt of Chadwick; three sons, Gene Hess of Chadwick, Greg Hess of Savanna, IL and Bruce (Michelle) Hess of Byron, IL; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Jerry) Lavelle, Robyn (Brandon) Johnson, Sandra (Jason) Fishbaugh, Suzanne Baumgardt, Jeffrey Baumgardt, Taylor Hess, Demi Hess; six great grandchildren, Conner and Corinne Lavelle, Ashton and Joshua Johnson, Kalie and Kaden Fishbaugh; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Moran of Prescott, AZ and Mrs. Gladys Lindsay of Rockford, IL; two brothers, Harold Hess of Byron, IL and Wayne (June) Hess of Franklin, IN.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Scott Hess, four sisters, Grace Mundt, Velma Schafer, Mildred Hoak and Esther Hess; three brothers, Orville, Raymond and Mervin Hess.

VISITATION: 4:00 - 7:00 PM Monday, February 15, 2010 at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home
